Rigging for Rescue

Slow pull and drop testing of 9.5mm Sterling Tactical Response

Abstract:

A number of mountain rescue as well as Department of Defense rope rescue teams utilize aramid fiber ropes for their backcountry operations. Cited benefits include:

  •  Heat resistance
  •  High tensile strength
  •  Robust abrasion resistance

The testing conducted included:

  •  Slow pull tensile testing of the host rope as well as rope/device combined
  •  Dynamic drop testing to the Belay Competence Drop Test Method

The intent was to gain a better understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the Tactical Response Rope for rope rescue operations.
